What Players Are Saying
"Pedal steel compass is super well thought out and intuitive to use. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, there’s always something to learn and this app helps you get there."
"PSG compass encompasses (punny, right?) some extremely useful tools for steel players, beginner or advanced. The ability to explore the fretboard/scales (with any custom copedent) is priceless. The chord decipher tool is genius. The voice leader tool is something I'm really excited to explore, especially for C6 & Universal tunings. I plan to use this app to find more friendly ways to play phrases/scales on the steel, and also, using the app for ideas..whether it be through exploring some of the more exotic scales, "out there" chords, or messing with the voice leader section on how to move through different progressions. I feel like guys have tried to pull off way simpler versions of this app in the past and it never stuck. However, Rodrigo has went all the way and created something special. I truly believe PSG Compass is going to be a huge asset to steel players, old and new."
"I've been using the Pedal Steel Guitar Compass app for a while now, and it's become one of the most useful tools in my pedal steel workflow. One of the biggest perks for me is how quickly it helps me track down unusual chord positions across the neck—things I probably wouldn't have stumbled onto on my own. When I'm working on my own arrangements, it's the first place I go to explore alternate voicings, extended chords, and all those classic "okay… where does this live on E9?" moments we all run into. The scale features are just as helpful. Being able to visualize scales across the tuning has made improvising feel more intentional, and it's helped me understand how different scale patterns connect and overlap on the neck. It really bridges the gap between theory and the physical layout of the instrument, which is something I think every steel player chases at some point. Beyond being a source of inspiration, it's a genuinely strong educational tool. It teaches you the instrument while you use it, which is rare for an app. Huge thanks to Rodrigo De La Mora for letting me test the app early—and especially for taking some of my own ideas and building them right into the app. It's been amazing to see it develop and to know that my input helped shape something this useful for the steel guitar community."
"Rodrigo has built an extraordinary and powerful app! With its backbone deeply rooted in sound music theory it lets You explore every thinkable chord and scale for Your very own copedent. I especially love the voice leader, something I never saw before in another app."
"Two years ago I started to learn the PSG. The first thing I wanted to know was, where are all the chords across the neck? What are the results in pedal and lever movements? I started by drawing up charts, you do learn that way but it is so hard and complicated. That was with 3 pedals and 4 knee levers! I have just received my new PSG, 8 pedals and more levers than I have knees. So to do the above, chartwise, would be out of the question. The PSG Compass does all that hard work. I can now find chords I never knew existed. My new PSG has a locking B6 mechanism. Lo and behold the PSG Compass can construct a copedent, once done, it instantly shows me where all chords can be found, with all pedal/lever combinations. PSG Compass is the greatest tool for new PSG players and I can see seasoned players could use it to change their copedent or tunings and easily find where all chords reside. Rodrigo has put so much work into this, I find it staggering what he has accomplished."
"What Rodrigo has done here, I bet many of us Steel Players have thought of. I know I have, but figuring out how to actually write a program like in Excel, was daunting and way beyond anything I actually wanted to dive into. THANK YOU Rodrigo for finally making something like this a reality. The ability to input the strings used and pedal lever combination you’re using and having PSG Compass Define what chord that is, to me was well worth the price of admission. Prior to this I was putting the notes I was playing in a web based program that would tell my what the chord was. HOWEVER with PSG Compass it tells me all or most of the additional names that chord can be called, which has ALWAYS been confusing to me as my Music Theory is basically non existent. An simple example would be C6 = Am7. I get these simple ones but some of the more complex voicing’s leave me lost, dazed and confused. This feature alone is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Again, Thank you Rodrigo, job well done."
